Texas Sheriff Hopes to Resurrect Volunteer Cavalry

Emulating Teddy Roosevelts “Rough Riders” Waco Sheriff Parnell McNamara hopes to reactive the volunteer force.   “Recruits have been swarming me with offers to join, especially those who previously had been doing part time DOT security.” Parnell reports.

The Rough Riders was a nickname given to the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, one of three such regiments raised in 1898 for the Spanish–American War and the only one to see combat. The volunteers were gathered in four areas: Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. They were gathered mainly from the southwest because the hot climate region that the men were used to was similar to that of Cuba where they would be fighting.

When informed the new group may need to be formed in more Northern areas such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, the Dakotas for example rather than Texas due to the colder climate in the Ukraine. Sheriff Parnell seemed agitated and responded brusquely, “Its been pretty darned cold here if you had not noticed”

Volunteers seemed to be split on who they would be assisting in the Ukraine.  Senior Deputy volunteers are advocating to assist the Russian Army quoting recent Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson rhetoric while other volunteers believe they should actually be against the Russians.

The new Cavalry Volunteer self proclaimed commander Parnell boasts he has enough firearms to equip everyone who volunteers.  His wife “Shar” boasts she will supply every volunteer with a horse and saddle.  A volunteer who asked to remain anonymous reports that McLennan County Sheriff Department have been seizing livestock for years and not auctioning them and instead keeping them.  That is where the horses will come from however they’re may not be enough.

An elderly Waco resident known as the Cat Lady was quick to point out the entire idea is preposterous. “They are absolutely MAD! Crazy! they have not considered how to supply these volunteers let alone feed the horses”

Texas Volunteer force is expected to begin training this week.  Some of the weapons planned for volunteers were displayed.  At the moment they are busy planning what kind of uniform will be worn.
